Pyrrosia splendens Fern are tropical epiphytic ferns that are native to the Philippines countries. It’s one of the famous fern species of the Philippines because of its lush green fronds.

They generally grow in wet tropical biomes. In the native habitats, they tend to grow in rocks, and tree trunks on growing epiphytes.

Generally, in the landscape or garden, you need to give them an upward surface because they usually don’t like flat surfaces to grow.

Specialists don’t have much information about these Pyrrosia splendens ferns. However, we hope they will discover more about these ferns in the near future.

Growing Requirements of Pyrrosia Splendens Fern

Although these ferns don’t have much information about their primary growth, I have still planted these ferns in my mini garden.

I have done some experiments regarding their ideal growing conditions to make them thrive and bloom. After plenty of unsuccessful attempts, I have finally grasped their ideal condition which is pretty much the same as the normal ferns species.

Shade Requirements

These epiphytic Pyrrosia splendens merely prefer partial shaded places. Therefore you can place them in such places of your house where they can be entirely indoor with an immense brightness.

These ferns can do well in both east-facing and west-facing windows. However, try to keep them in well-ventilated places with brightness.

Water

They prefer moisture and dampness in their soil. So, it is better you try to keep the soil moist and dense. Don’t overwater your Pyrrosia splendens ferns, it can rotten their roots.

Just weekly watering would be enough to keep them moist and densely.

Soil

Try to give them rich humus soil with well-drained properties. These types of soil help to prevent waterlogged situations and also provide nutrients to their body.

You can generally use potting soil or mixing soil from any local nursery. Or else, you can make your own potting soil with sand, organic compost, soil, perlite, vermiculite, etc.

Temperature and Humidity

Well, these Pyrrosia splendens ferns prefer optimal conditions for thriving. Means they enjoy warm humid atmospheres around themselves to grow and thrive.

However, if you don’t live under humid conditions, you can imitate their actual native habitats by providing them with an artificial humid atmosphere.

For that, you can buy a humidifier or use a pebble tray to intensify warm humid optimal conditions around your Pyrrosia splendens fern.

Fertilizing

You can simply use an all-purpose plant fertilizer or universal fertilizer during their developmental seasons. It will enhance your Pyrrosia Splendens growth.

How to Propagate Pyrrosia Splendens Fern

If you want to propagate these Pyrrosia Splendens ferns, you can use a simple dividing method.

Just select your ferns and water them thoroughly before starting the process. Watering the plant will help your dividing process more smoothly.

Because if the soil remains dry and hard, it might give you some hardship to divide. So, after watering the plant, gently remove it from the pot.

Press sidewards to ease the process. Then take a sharp scissor to divide the plant from its rhizomes. After dividing, again replant each part into your selected pots or containers with new potting soil.

After painting your Pyrrosia splendens into the pot, water it thoroughly. And here is where your propagation process is completed.

Mistakes Which I Have Done While Growing Pyrrosia Splendens Ferns

These ferns are somehow my favorite ferns as I have already mentioned in the title. However, while buying these ferns from my local nursery shop, I don’t have much information regarding their growing habits.

Even when I searched for this fern’s information online, I didn’t get many details and guidance about these ferns.

Hence, my unsuccessful attempts start to make them thrive as well as survive. After a few months, I don’t see much-growing tendency in my Pyrrosia Splendens.

Then I realized I needed to replace their location and must have to give them a semi-shaded place with full ventilation. Also, I used to water these ferns twice a week.

But then I realized, water started to get logged on their soil. Also, my ferns are dropping to some extent. For that reason, I use a thumb technique to pour water on my plant.

I start to water it only when the soil gets dry. Later I understood, that once a week watering would be generous for these ferns to grow actively. Since I’m living in cold regions, I notice their fronds start to dehydrate and become dull.

I use a humidifier around them to make the place more humid and foggy. And surprisingly within a few weeks, my ferns started to grow again actively.

I expect you won’t repeat those mistakes that I have made while growing these epiphytic Pyrrosia splendens ferns.

Wrap Up

In short, Pyrrosia splendens are epiphytic ferns that are widely distributed in the Philippines areas. Being a plant lover, these Pyrrosia splendens are one of the favorite ferns in my fern collection.

Despite having less information about these ferns, I self-learned about these ferns while growing them in my home garden.

Hopefully, now you can also grow and plant these Pyrrosia splendens ferns at your home after reading the above-mentioned information.
